Around Utrecht, Castles and Estates

The June event is almost upon us…are you and your oldtimer prepared?

Our chairman Hans and our first leading man Sam have organised a ride in the attractive surroundings of Utrecht on June 7. We can’t go into the inner city of Utrecht unfortunately because it is a low emission zone which is maintained diligently with fines up to  €90,-.

Meeting point

We gather in Doorn at the Beukenrode estate between  12.00 and 12.30 h., of which more later. The address is Beukenrodelaan 2, 3941 ZP Doorn (0343-473220).

On arrival you will find  coffee/tea and cake.  In that same place  later that day there will be  a drink and a hot and cold buffet for those  staying on.

Parking and report

On arrival at Beukenrode the cars can be parked close to the house on the lawn.

It is understandable that you will want to catch up with all your GCCC friends and want to admire each other’s ’s cars, but please don’t forget to report first to the organisers present. Try and be in time at the end of the ride, dinner will start at 6 p.m. (after the handing out of the prizes).

Hunting Lodge Beukenrode

The monumental house “Beukenrode” with its geometrically designed gardens goes back to the 18th century . The pond is in the shape of an S and is still there. This old house was pulled down in 1872 and a new house was built instead, now called the ‘Jachthuis’ (Hunting Lodge), built in neo-renaissance style with Italian influences. This house was inhabited until 1950. Then it was taken over by a Catholic religious order who ran a school there for 12 to 18 year old boys with adaptation probklems. In 2002 the complex was extensively renovated inside and out.

On our way

After the coffee we’re on our way. Shortly after we will pass Huis Doorn, where the German Emperor found refuge after World War I. There is now a War Museum in one of the outbuildings. But note, parking spaces will be limited on days like this.

We continue our way via Houten, fort ‘Het Hemeltje’ and fort ‘Rijnauwen’ to Bunnik. From Bunnik wit is de Uithof next. there you can visit the Botanical Garderns; edating back to 1639. Entrance fee is €7,50 (free for Museumkaart holders).

he via De Bilt, past the forts Voordorp and Blauwkapel to Maarseveense plassen, where you can park your carin the car park on Gageldijk.

We hebben geregeld dat GCCC leden gratis door het hek naar het strand en pannenkoekenhuis kunnen om er op eigen gelegenheid wat te drinken.

We continue the ride along the rural route via Maarssen, Tienhoven, Maarseveen, Molenpolder, Westbroek, Maartensdijk and Bilthoven then back to Doorn.
