Zealand – Walcheren: dunes, polders and gardens

KOUDEKERKE – On Sunday  April 17, 2016 you are cordially invited to a varied ride through Zealand scenery, organised by our members Arnold & Bart. Zuid-Beveland welcomed you in 2014 with a ride, now it’s the former island Walcheren’s turn. Please note, the start location is not the same as the finish, so keep that in mind if you want to join up in somebody else’s car for the ride.

You are expected from 11.30 onwards  in Koudekerke. The exact location details have been communicated to our members in a separate mail. At this location dogs are allowed inside, but only on a leash.

Lunch on arrival?

Coffie/tea is provided on arrival accompanied by a buffet of mini pastries and for those who

have reserved beforehand, there is a luncheon buffet from 12 noon onards, consisting of a fish soup with a rich filling, a delicious tomato soup, fresh meat and fish salad, sauces, various freshly baked rolls and to finish it off, a fruit salad. For extra drinks, coins  can be bought  at the counter for  € 2,50 (one drink for one coin, foreign distilled drinks excluded).

Those who don’t want the lunch buffet are advised to be there at 13.00 h., so we can start the ride at half past one. For you there is also coffee/tea and the mini pastry buffet, of course.

The ride will take us through beautiful Walcheren scenery. It is known as the “Zealand Garden”, on account of its many green mansions, situated mainly around Oostkapelle. But we will also stop at the Zealand capital city Middelburg and the picturesque Veere, as well as the Vlissingen sea front. A surprise will be waiting for us at  Domburg! The ride ends at Middelburg, where we will have a drink and a small bite to eat. Drinks are at your own expense there. Dogs, unfortunately, are not alllowed in the building.

What will all this cost?

Payment, as usual, in advance. Taking part in the ride without lunch costs € 10,00 for members and € 12,00 for guests. This includes coffee/tea and the mini pastry buffet at the start and the drink and snack at the finish. Drinks coins at the start location cost € 2,50 each, available at the counter. The lunch buffet is € 13,75 p.p.

How to Register?

Registering is no longer possible, the final day to do so was Sunday April 10th.

Stayin overnight?

If you consider Zealand a bit too far for one day, why not stay overnight? Walcheren has a lot of possibilities for that. For a start Huys Ter Schelde in Koudekerke. Vlissingen has several hotels, mainly situated on the sea front, such as Amadore hotel Arion. Staying on the beach is fun too, see www.strandhuisjes.info. There are also Van der Valk hotels both in Middelburg and in Goes. And don’t forget there are many (mini-)camping sites available ready for you to set up your own tent, such as   www.sint-anthonijshoek.nl (also with B&B!) or www.minicamping-onsweitje.nl (also mobile homes availabe).
