GCCC: Driving along picturesque Veluwe roads

The Veluwe, the hilly region North of Arnhem, has been an area we’ve visited before, but never in the Autumn. A period in which the trees are starting to drop or have dropped their leaves. Our club mates Marcel and Arie have joined forces and are presenting a ride in the northern half of this region of natural beauty.

Mooie wegen op de Veluwe

Start

As usual, between 12:00 and 12:30 h. you are expected at the starting point, where coffee/tea is waiting for you. The ride will start at Nunspeet, the exact address participants will get after registering. The route is initially heading south along somewhat more through roads , but soon the roads will change character and have more of an tourist appeal, passing through the heather, which by now will have finished blooming.

Radio Kootwijk

Shortly after, we’ll get near Radio Kootwijk, worth a small detour from the planned route just to have a look at this cathedral-like building in art deco style. It was built to house the radio equipment used for links with the former Dutch colony, which is now called Indonesia The whole complex has a surrealistic appeal. Unfortunately you can’t get there by car anymore, but parking your car and walking there is very worthwhile.

Museum

After that we head for Beekbergen to visit the A-Ford Museum. A cute collectionof mainly pre-war Fords, many of which are type A, model cars and other stuff from the period. It is there that we get coffe/tea/soft drink with something special from the pastry baker’s. If you like, the owner tells you all about the cars.

Then it is time to head North again, along the outskirts of Apeldoorn and the Palace Het Loo. Not far from the finish we pass Vierhouten, a village with a lot of places where you can have a drink or so, and then it is back to Nunspeet.

Menu

A-FordAfter the ride there is a chance to chat to your friends while enjoying something to drink. And then, for those who reserved it beforehand, a three course is dinner planned, costing € 25,-. The choice of menu can be made when you register.

And the cost of it all?
